High-Scoring LA Tech Visits Wichita State Saturday

WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State begins a five-game homestand with a visit from Louisiana Tech Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. in Charles Koch Arena.

New Tip Times
This season the Shockers will tip 30 minutes earlier on weeknights and select weekend games. Contests will now start at 6:30 p.m. instead of 7 p.m. like in seasons past.

On The Air
Saturday's game can be heard online at GoShockers.com/listen with the voice of Shocker Women's Basketball Steve Strain calling the action. Strain begins his fifth season broadcasting games for the women's program. The game can also be seen locally on COX YurView (HD 2022) and online at YurView.com/Kansas.
 

Win No. 300
Wichita State head coach Keitha Adams collected her 300th career win at the Division I level in the Shockers' overtime win vs. Missouri State on Nov. 10. She compiled 284 wins in her 16 seasons at UTEP and has accumulated 18 in her first two seasons at Wichita State. She has a career record of 302-227.

Home Openers
Wichita State opened its home slate vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff for the 2018-19 season on Wednesday, Nov. 7. The Shockers are 29-16 all-time in home openers after defeating UAPB, 76-39. Wichita State has won six of its last eight home openers. The Shockers started the game on a 14-0 run and never looked back in the 37-point win. Senior Sabrina Lozada-Cabbage scored a career-high 21 points in only 17 minutes. She outscored the whole UAPB team in the first half, 19-14.

Youngsters
Wichita State's roster consists of eight true freshmen, one redshirt freshman, one sophomore, two juniors, one redshirt junior and two seniors. All told, the average age of the 2018-19 Shockers is just 19.2 years, making them the fifth youngest team in the country.

Scouting the Lady Techsters

Located in Ruston, La., Louisiana Tech University has an enrollment of 12,473 as a member of the Conference USA. Louisiana Tech returns nine letterwinners, including four starters off last year's squad that finished 19-12 and 10-6 in Conference USA. The Lady Techsters fell in the first round of the WNIT to Missouri State. LA Tech was picked to finish sixth in the 2018-19 C-USA preseason poll. 

Louisiana Tech is 4-1 to open the 2018-19 campaign after wins against LSU Alexandria (112-70), Houston (100-88), Memphis (66-50), Arkansas State (80-70) and a home loss to Little Rock (58-69). Kierra Anthony ranks 12th in the country in points per game (24.4), 2nd in field goals made (45), 6th in free throws made (30) and 8th in field goal attempts (86). Taylor Stahly (14.2 ppg) and Raizel Guinto (10.6) round out the double-figure scorers. Zhanae Whitney leads LA Tech in rebounding at 8.0 per game. The Lady Techsters 11th nationally in free throws made, 13th in assists and 18th in free throw attempts. Anthony was named the ESPNW National Player of the Week and the Conference USA Player of the Week following her performance in the Lady Techsters two wins last week. Anthony earned the awards after averaging 35.0 points, 4.5 assists, 3.0 steals and 3.0 rebounds while leading the Lady Techsters to wins over Houston and Memphis. She hit 20-of-21 free throws in the two games and has started the year with four straight games of 20-plus points. Co-Head Coaches Brooke and Scott Stoehr enter their third season with Louisiana Tech. They have a career record of 111-85 in seven seasons as a collegiate head coaches.




4-0 Start
The Shockers opened the season 4-0 for the first time since 1996-97. Wichita State defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff (76-39), Missouri State (63-60), Sam Houston State (63-55) and Houston Baptist (68-50) while holding those four opponents to a combined 29.5 percent shooting from the field. The defense has been even better guarding the three-point line. Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Missouri State, Sam Houston State and Houston Baptist combined to shoot 18-for-80 from beyond the arc, good for an 22.5 percent clip.

Double-Double
Through the first three games of the season Wichita State freshman forward Trajata Colbert had played a total of 14 minutes with one DNP, but when her number was called Saturday vs. Houston Baptist, the Rochelle, Ga., native responded. Colbert played 13 minutes and collected her first career double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds - 7 of them offensive. Her rebounding exhibition helped WSU outrebound HBU by 23, while the team's 21 offensive rebounds marked a season best.

Five More Minutes
Wichita State needed overtime to take down Missouri State on Nov. 10, marking the first overtime game for the Shockers since defeating Loyola (65-62) on Feb. 14, 2016 in Charles Koch Arena. Wichita State is 18-20 all-time in overtime contests, including a 9-8 mark at home. It is the seventh November overtime game in program history, four of those wins.


Home Sweet Home
Wichita State will play 18 games in front of its home crowd in 2018-19, marking the most home games in a single season. The Shockers have never played more than 17 games in a season on their own floor. Wichita State played 17 home contests in both 2008-09 and 2006-07 seasons.
