WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State head women's basketball coach
Keitha Adams announced the signing of two student-athletes to National Letters of Intent Wednesday morning.
Ashlei Kirven and DaJinae McCarty will join the Shockers for the 2019-20 season.
Ashlei Kirven | Forward | 6'3" | Beaumont, Texas
Ashlei Kirven will join the Shocker family from Beaumont, Texas and Beaumont United High School. A four-year letterwinner and two-time team captain, Kirven averaged 27 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and three blocks as a junior. During her prep career she has been named the Newcomer of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, All-District MVP, Vype MVP and a Super Gold First and Second Teamer. She is the daughter of Kerry and Nichole Kirven and has one brother, Innis Gaines.
Coach Adams on Kirven: "Ashlei is one of the top post players from the Houston area. She's a very athletic, strong and physical post player who can rebound and score around the basket. She will bring a very competitive mentality to our team."
DJ McCarty | Guard | 5'8" | DeSoto, Texas
DJ McCarty makes the move to Wichita from DeSoto, Texas and Cedar Hill High School. McCarty lettered all four years at Cedar Hill and was a two-time captain. She averaged 15.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game as a junior en route to First Team All-District honors as a sophomore and junior. Helped lead her team to a 29-11 record as a junior and TABC All-Region. McCarty also racked up Newcomer of the Year honors as a freshman. McCarty plans on majoring in nursing at Wichita State. She is the daughter of David and Tameka McCarty and has one brother, Davion.
Coach Adams on McCarty: "DJ is one of the top guards in Texas and we're extremely excited to have her as a Shocker. She can score, defend and distribute the basketball. She is very competitive and plays with a very high motor."
