Shockers Go for Fourth Straight Win Saturday vs. HBU

WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State caps its season-opening four game homestand with a visit from Houston Baptist on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Superhero Day - First 500 youth receive superhero capes (WSU has partnered with the Special Olympics to recognize those with special needs and disabilities).

New Tip Times
This season the Shockers will tip 30 minutes earlier on weeknights and select weekend games. Contests will now start at 6:30 p.m. instead of 7 p.m. like in seasons past.

Win No. 300
Wichita State head coach Keitha Adams collected her 300th career win at the Division I level in Saturday's overtime win vs. Missouri State. She compiled 284 wins in her 16 seasons at UTEP and has accumulated 17 in her first two seasons at Wichita State. She has a career record of 301-226.

Home Openers
Wichita State opened its home slate vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff for the 2018-19 season last Wednesday night. The Shockers are 29-16 all-time in home openers after defeating UAPB, 76-39. Wichita State has won six of its last eight home openers. The Shockers started the game on a 14-0 run and never looked back in the 37-point win. Senior Sabrina Lozada-Cabbage scored a career-high 21 points in only 17 minutes. She outscored the whole UAPB team in the first half, 19-14.

Youngsters
Wichita State's roster consists of eight true freshmen, one redshirt freshman, one sophomore, two juniors, one redshirt junior and two seniors. All told, the average age of the 2018-19 Shockers is just 19.2 years, making them the fifth youngest team in the country.

The Series vs. Houston Baptist
Saturday marks the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

Scouting the Huskies
Located in Houston, Texas, Houston Baptist University has an enrollment of 3,160 as a member of the Southland Conference. Houston Baptist returns 14 letterwinners, including all five starters off last year's squad that finished 10-18 and 6-12 in the Southland. The Huskies are 2-0 so far in 2018-19 after season-opening wins vs. McMurry, 92-41 and Texas A&M International, 81-48. Taylor Kollmorgen leads three-double-figure scorers with 17.5 points along with a team-best 13.0 rebounds per game. Shannon Jones and Megan Valdez-Crader add 14.0 and 10.5 points per game, respectively. As a team, HBU has outscored its first two opponents by an average of 42.0 points. The Huskies average 86.5 points a contest on 47.7 percent shooting. HBU has also been active defensively, forcing 22.5 turnovers a game and allowing its opponents to shoot just 28.6 percent from the floor. Senior guard Amanda Johnson returns to lead Houston Baptist. Johnson led the Huskies in scoring a season ago at 15.4 points per game to go along with 4.1 rebounds. The Huskies also bring back leading rebounder, Veronika Kirienko (5.7 rpg). The lone loss on the roster is last season's leader in assists, Britta Daub (76 assists). Head Coach Donna Finnie enters her sixth season with Houston Baptist. She has a career record of 59-90 in her first six seasons as a collegiate head coach. Prior to becoming the head coach at HBU, Finnie served as an assistant on the staff for three seasons. Finnie arrived at Houston Baptist after 10 seasons as a national team coach in Scotland.




Undefeated Start 
The Shockers are 3-0 to open the season for the first time since 2002-03. Wichita State will look to make it 4-0 on Saturday vs. Houston Baptist. No Shocker team has started 4-0 since the 1996-97 squad. Wichita State has defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff (76-39), Missouri State (63-60) and Sam Houston State (63-55), while holding the three opponents to a combined 30.1 percent shooting from the field. The defense has been even better guarding the three-point line. UAPB, Missouri State and SHSU combined to shoot 11-for-61 from beyond the arc, good for an 18.0 percent clip.


Raven's Double-Double
Redshirt junior Raven Prince recorded a double-double in just her second career game as a Shocker on Nov. 10 vs. Missouri State. The Oklahoma City native played 32 minutes off the bench and poured in 12 points and 12 rebounds to help the Shockers take down the Lady Bears in overtime. It marked the first double-double in the 2018-19 campaign for Wichita State.

Five More Minutes
Wichita State needed overtime to take down Missouri State on Nov. 10, marking the first overtime game for the Shockers since defeating Loyola (65-62) on Feb. 14, 2016 in Charles Koch Arena. Wichita State is 18-20 all-time in overtime contests, including a 9-8 mark at home. It is the seventh November overtime game in program history, four of those wins.


Home Sweet Home
Wichita State will play 18 games in front of its home crowd in 2018-19, marking the most home games in a single season. The Shockers have never played more than 17 games in a season on their own floor. Wichita State played 17 home contests in both 2008-09 and 2006-07 seasons.
