LAWRENCE, Kan. – Behind three home runs, the Wichita State softball team capped the fall season with a 7-0 shutout of Kansas Thursday night at Arrocha Ballpark.
Bailey Lange led the offensive attack with a 3-for-4 night at the plate that included a home run, a double and three RBI.
Madison Perrigan also went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.
Laurie Derrico collected a pair of hits, including a home run and two RBI.
Freshman
Erin McDonald got the start in the circle and allowed no runs on just two hits in 4.0 innings of work, while striking out two.
Caitlin Bingham threw the next 4.0 innings, allowing a single hit, before giving way to Lange to pitch the final 2.0 innings.
Through the first five innings the only run of the game came on Lange's solo home run to right field in the top of the third. In the top of the sixth, Lange would strike again. This time she laced a double to the left-center gap to drive in two runs. Three batters later, Perrigan delivered a two-run blast to straightaway center to put the Shockers ahead 5-0.
The Shockers' third home run of the game came in the top of the eighth courtesy of Derrico. Her two-run laser over the left field wall made it 7-0.
Wichita State recorded its first shut out of the fall and finished with a 6-1 record.
