Wichita State wraps up the regular season this weekend with a pair of road games against the top two teams in the Valley. The Shockers travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa, to meet UNI Thursday night at 7 p.m. before facing the MVC regular season champions, Drake, Saturday afternoon.
Quickly - Wichita State (14-13, 9-7) travels to the league leaders, UNI (20-7, 13-3) and Drake, (23-4, 16-0), Thursday night and Saturday afternoon, respectively. UNI left Wichita on Jan. 1 with a narrow 63-61 win in the first meeting of the two teams while Drake defeated WSU, 83-78, on Dec. 30.
-WSU is fourth in The Valley at 9-7 with two games remaining while SIU is right behind the Shockers at 8-8. Drake is the league champion and UNI is currently second with Missouri State a close third at 12-4.
-The Shockers are either the No. 4 or No. 5 seed in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament next week in Moline, Ill. Regardless of No. 4 or No. 5 seed since the two play each other, WSU will play the 2:32 p.m., game on Fri., March 10.
-Last weekend, WSU won, 65-43, against Loyola, and 67-43, against Indiana State in Wichita.

Angiee Tompkins earned the Shockers' first weekly honor of the year with her Newcomer of the Week honor on Monday.
-Former Shocker Head Coach Linda Hargrove was named Shocker Head Coach Jan. 22. She was the fourth head coach in Shocker history, and is now the eighth head coach. She was 113-136 at WSU in nine seasons, and had a collegiate coaching record of 429-248 in 26 seasons.
-Hargrove is now 119-139 at WSU in a 10th season and 435-251 overall. The Evansville win was her first in Charles Koch Arena since returning to the bench.
-Assistant Coach Kirk Crawford was the acting head coach for WSU's wins against Bradley and Illinois State Jan. 20/22. WSU defeated Illinois State, 67-45, and Bradley, 65-54.
-The Shockers are 493-539 in conference play since 1982 in the Gateway (1982-91) and Missouri Valley Conferences (1992-Present).
On UNI... Tanya Warren holds an overall record of 182-137 in her 10th season at UNI. She is just one win away from tying Tony DiCecco for all-time wins leader at UNI. UNI ranks 10th in NCAA Division I women's basketball in turnovers per game, only averaging 12.0 per game. UNI is the only team in the Valley with two wins over Top-20 RPI teams this season. UNI has faced eight teams in the Top-100 RPI. UNI has 20 wins this season, marking the first time in program history to have back-to-back seasons with 20-or-more wins. The Panthers are ranked in the top-50 in the NCAA scoring defense, only allowing 57.9 points per game from their opponents.
On the Series... In the all-time series, WSU trails 38-35 against UNI. The Shockers lost both meetings to UNI a year ago, and the earlier meeting this season, 63-61, on Jan. 1.
In the First Meeting... Wichita State fell to UNI, 63-61 on Sunday afternoon on New Year's Day in front of a Charles Koch Arena crowd of 1,564. WSU was led in scoring by
TaQuandra Mike's season-high 20 points. Mike also had a career-high seven steals. Bessard backed her with 15 points and 15 rebounds, her second-straight double-double. UNI - picked to finish second in the Valley in the preseason - was led in scoring by Ellie Herzberg's 19 points. Madison Weekly added 14 points.
Last Time Out... Wichita State defeated Indiana State, 67-43, Sunday afternoon behind the second-straight double-double by
Angiee Tompkins and a team-leading 17 points from
Rangie Bessard. Thompkins had 15 points and 10 boards for WSU while ISU's Wendi Bibbins had 12 points and 10 boards. WSU out-shot the Sycamores, 39.3 percent (24-61) to 24.6 percent (15-61) for the game. Following the game WSU honored seniors,

Tompkins Getting Comfortable... Angiee Tompkins averaged a double-double in the Shockers' two wins last week with 16.5 points and 10.0 rebounds a game. It was her 10th and 11th double-figure scoring games of the season. She has also had double-figure scoring in four of the last five games, averaging 14.0 points in those games. Shes's also averaged 7.2 boards a game in those games.
More on Tompkins... For the week,
Angiee Tompkins shot 63.6 percent (14-22) from the field. Against Loyola she had 18 points and 10 rebounds and against Indiana State she had 15 points and 10 boards. The 10 boards were a career high while the 18 points were two shy of her career high.
MVC Double-Doubles... Wichita State has 10 double-doubles this season with all of them coming during Missouri Valley Conference play.

Sabrina Lozada-Cabbage collected her first double-double of the season with a career-high 13 points and career-high 17 rebounds to lead Wichita State to a 76-69 win at Bradley Feb. 19.
Shockers Faced Key Injuries... WSU's leading scorer
Rangie Bessard missed the Bradley game with an injury she sustained in the game at Illinois State, while starting point guard
Keke Thompson missed three-straight games with injury. Both played against Loyola and then started against Indiana State.
Bessard's Gets Game-Winner... Rangie Bessard averaged 20.5 points and 10.0 rebounds in the Shockers' two games against Evansville and SIU, and hit the game winning shot against the Aces. For the week, she shot 51.4 percent (18-35) from the field and averaged 2.5 blocks, 2.0 steals and 2.0 assists. Against Evansville, she had 26 points and seven boards while making 11-of-19 shots. Against SIU, she had her sixth double-double of the season with 15 points and 13 boards.
Hargrove Gets "First" Home win... Linda Hargrove got her first Charles Koch Arena win in the game against Evansville, her "first" in the building since returning to the sideline. Her previous home wins came in the building when it was named Levitt Arena prior to the renovation. Her previous home win came in her first stint in her last home game of the 1998 season, an 60-58 win against Indiana State.
Five-Straight... Wichita State's five-game winning streak, broken Feb. 5 against Missouri State, was its longest since the 2014-15 season when the Shockers won 12-straight to close out the regular-season and three-straight tournament games.
Bessard the Second... Rangie Bessard has scored in double-figures in 12-straight games and 22 of the 24 she has played in.
She is the second-leading scorer in the Valley at 16.3 points a game. In Valley-only play, she has double-figures in the 14-of-15 games she has played and is also the second-leading scorer in MVC-only games at 16.7 a game.

Rangie Bessard's career scoring average of 15.9 points a game through 48games is on pace to finish in the Shocker Top 5 in history. She averaged 15.5 points a game a year ago in 24 games, and this year is at 16.3 a game. Marguerite Keeley averaged 20.8 points a game from 1975-77, while Allison Daniel averaged 14.9 points a game from 1982-86.

Brittany Martin has 73 for her career and is 20 from moving into the Shocker Top 10. The Shocker record is 256 by Theresa Dreiling from 1979-83.
