ST. LOUIS  --  Wichita State student-athlete Angiee Tompkins has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week, it was announced today by the league office.

Tompkins, a forward from Orlando, Fla., averaged a double-double in the Shockers' two wins last week with 16.5 points and 10.0 rebounds a game. For the week she also shot 63.6 percent (14-22) from the field, had four steals and three assists.

Against Loyola she had 18 points and 10 rebounds, and against Indiana State she had 15 points and 10 boards. The 10 boards were a career high while the 18 points were two shy of her career high.

Wichita State is next in action Thursday and Saturday at UNI and Drake, respectively, in the final regular-season games of the season.
