Fall Schedule
WICHITA, Kan. – Head softball coach
Kristi Bredbenner announced the fall 2016 schedule for the Wichita State softball team on Wednesday.
The Shockers are coming off a historic 2016 season, winning both the Missouri Valley Conference regular season championship and the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.
Wichita State also received its first NCAA Regional appearance since 2005, falling to No. 3 Oklahoma in the first round before defeating Tulsa for the Shockers' first NCAA Regional win in school history.
The Shockers will kick off the fall season on September 17, as the team will hold its annual alumni game at 2 p.m., at Wilkins Stadium.
"After a historic 2016 season, I think the girls are fired up and energized to get back on the field," Bredbenner said. "Usually the fall schedule consists of Division II schools and junior colleges. It is a good time for us to evaluate newcomers and returners to see what we need to work on this fall, and what needs to be fixed to defend the Missouri Valley Conference Championship and return to another NCAA Regional."
The rest of the fall schedule consists of seven games, as WSU plays host to Cowley County Community College, Newman University, Johnson County Community College, Crowder College, Seminole State, Hutchinson Community College and Northern Oklahoma-Enid.
All fall games will be played at Wilkins Stadium.
The Shockers will also hold their annual Black & Gold Scrimmage this fall, with game one on Oct. 19, game two on Oct. 27 and game three on Oct. 31. All tickets are $4, with the exception of the Alumni Game and Black & Gold Scrimmage which are free for fans.
