Box Score (PDF)WICHITA, Kan. – Coming off a strong offensive performance yesterday, the Wichita State softball team continued its offensive outburst with an 8-0 victory over Loyola in five innings on Saturday.
Jenni Brooks got her second start of the weekend, throwing four of the five innings that were played and only allowing two hits. This is the second game in a row that Brooks has allowed just two hits and zero runs and is now 8-3 on the season.
Wichita State swung the bats well in game three of the series, hitting three home runs on the game coming from
Brittany Fortner,
Liz Broyles and
Cassidy Kelsheimer.
Just like in game one yesterday, Fortner led off the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run to give the Shockers the strong start that they were looking for, leading 1-0 after one inning.
Again in the second inning, Wichita State was able to score two more runs off back-to-back home runs by Broyles and Kelsheimer.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Loyola pitchers walked three straight batters and let the Shockers score five runs on just three hits to take an 8-0 lead into the top of the fifth.
Kelsey Sterneker took over for Brooks in the fifth, throwing a perfect inning to give Wichita State the 8-0 victory by run-rule in five innings.
Wichita State is now 16-12 on the season and 4-2 in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Shockers will be in action again on Tues., March 29 as they travel to Lawrence, Kan., to take on the Kansas Jayhawks at 6 p.m.
