WICHITA, Kan. – Scoring early was the key for the Shockers on Friday as they scored first in both games and defeated Loyola by scores of 5-0 and 7-2 at Wilkins Stadium.

Jenni Brooks got the start in the circle in game one, throwing all seven innings and only giving up two hits and striking out three. Brooks had a perfect game through 4.1 innings and received the win to make her record, 7-3.

Wichita State collected eight hits on the game with hits coming from Kelli Spring, Paige Luellen, Cacy Williams, Liz Broyles, and two hits apiece from Brittany Fortner and Macklin Hitz.

Wichita State got things going quick with a lead-off home run by Fortner. Both Spring and Luellen reached base in the first inning and later came around to score to give the Shockers an early 3-0 lead.

After two scoreless frames, Williams led off the bottom of the fourth with a single that was followed by a home run from Hitz to make the score 5-0 and give the Shockers the victory in game one.

In game two, Katie Malone took to the circle and also threw a strong game, pitching her sixth complete game of the season while allowing ten hits and striking out five batters.

Spring was the only Shocker to collect multiple hits in the game, going 2-for-4 and also scoring two runs.

Just like in game one, the Shockers jumped out to an early lead after Spring, Luellen and Williams reached on singles and later came around to score to give Wichita State a 3-0 lead.

The Ramblers showed signs of life in the third inning, scoring two runs to cut the Shockers lead to one.

Wichita State was not done as they scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth and two runs in the bottom of the sixth to give Wichita State the 7-2 win and give the Shockers their first back-to-back wins in MVC play.

Wichita State is now 15-12 overall and 3-2 in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Shockers will be in action again tomorrow at 12 p.m., for the third and final game against Loyola.
