Shockers Fall Short Twice on Day Two

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – On day two of the Demarini Desert Classic, the Wichita State softball team got swept, losing to Cal State Northridge, 9-3, and Oregon State, 4-3.

In game one against Cal State Northridge, the Matadors scored first, with one run in the first inning. In the second inning Cal State Northridge added one more to make the score 2-0.

Scoring three runs in the third and three runs in the fourth pushed the lead to 8-0 before the Shockers added two runs in the bottom of the fourth off of a homerun by Paige Luellen.

Both teams scored one run for the remainder of the game with the Shockers run coming off a homerun from Cacy Williams.

In game two, Oregon State struck first on a two-run homerun in the first inning. The Beavers then added another run on a solo homerun in the third inning, taking a 3-0 lead.

In the top of the fifth inning the Shockers got on the board after McKenzie Adams led off the inning with a single and Macklin Hitz hit a two-run pinch-hit homerun.

In the bottom half of the fifth, the Beavers added one more run to make the score 4-2.

In the top half of the sixth inning, Liz Broyles gave the Shockers their final run on a solo homerun.

The Shockers are now 3-6 overall and will be in action again on Sun., Feb. 21 against Boise State in the final game of the Demarini Desert Classic.
