Box Score (PDF)LAS VEGAS, Nev. – After a big victory to begin the day, the Wichita State softball team fell to the University of Hawaii, 6-2 to end the first day of the Demarini Desert Classic.
The Shockers collected three hits in the game, coming from
Mackenzie Wright,
Liz Broyles,
McKenzie Adams and
Ashley Johnson. Wright and
Kelli Spring drove in the team's two runs.
Katie Malone started the game in the circle for the Shockers pitching six full innings and giving up six runs, four of which were earned. Malone also struck out five batters in the game.
Hawaii struck first, scoring on a solo homerun in the top of the second inning. The Rainbow Wahine quickly pushed their lead to 4-0 after back-to-back singles and a three run homerun.
Wichita State rallied in the bottom of the third, after Adams led off the inning with a single, scoring two runs to make the score 4-2.
Hawaii scored two more runs in the top of the fifth inning, to give the Rainbow Wahine a 6-2 victory.
The Shockers are now 3-4 overall and will face Cal State Northridge at 9:00 a.m., on Sat., Feb. 20.
