COLLEGE STATION, Texas – A strong pitching performance by
Jenni Brooks helped give the Shockers their first win of the season, beating Colorado State, 3-0 in the first game of the Aggie Classic.
Wichita State out-hit the Rams, collecting five hits while Colorado State could only record two. Senior
Brittany Fortner led the charge for the offense, hitting two doubles, putting her only three doubles away from second place all-time.
Brooks threw five scoreless innings for the Shockers only allowing two hits and striking out four batters. Junior
Katie Malone finished the game in the circle and collected the save.
The Shockers started the game on the right note, with Fortner hitting a two-out double and
Paige Luellen following with a triple to score the first run of the season.
Another run in the top of the fifth and one more in the sixth off a pinch-hit homerun by
Macklin Hitz pushed the game out of reach, giving the Shockers a 3-0 victory in their first game of the season.
The Shockers will be in action again at 5:15 p.m. today as they take on Texas A&M in the Aggie Classic.
