One of the finest point guards in Shocker history. Was noted for his ability to execute with a game on the line. He several times sank last-second shots that accounted for Shocker triumphs, most memorable being his jumper that provided a 52-51 victory that ended defending national champion Cincinnati's 27-game winning streak in 1961. He concluded his playing career as a member of the 1,000-point club with 1,119 points. An accurate shooter, he led WSU in free throw percentage three consecutive years and at the time of induction still ranked second in career free throw percentage at .826. A first-team All-Missouri Valley Conference performer at guard in 1961, he also was an outstanding shortstop. He was a first-team all-conference selection in baseball and played professionally for a year in the New York Yankees organization before returning to Wichita to begin a coaching career on the staff of Ralph Miller. His 26-year coaching career in college basketball included four years as head coach at the University of Arkansas and 15 years as an assistant for Miller. Inducted, 1989.
