WICHITA, Kan. -- No. 52 Wichita State fell 5-2 to No. 31 Drake, Friday evening at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex.
WSU's Tin Ostojic (ITA No. 54) improved to 5-2 against nationally-ranked competition with a three-set win over No. 39 Alen Salibasic, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5.
WSU (16-5, 1-1 Missouri Valley Conference) saw a 20-match home winning streak come to an end. Drake (21-6, 2-0 MVC) kept its hold on first place in the conference standings.
The Shockers took some early momentum by winning the doubles point. After Ilija Cuic and Guillermo de Vilchez staked an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles, the team of Tomislav Gregurovic and Ostojic won a tight battle with Salibasic and Ben Mullis, 8-6.
Drake took control, winning the first five singles matches to completion. Ostojic's big win over Salibasic closed out the dual.
WSU hits the road Tuesday for a dual at Oklahoma State, then closed out the regular season next Saturday, April 11 at Illinois State.
