HOUSTON, Texas — Wichita State's Pablo Roche Alcaya and Rodrigo Cruz came away with the 2026 American Conference Doubles title following Sunday's action at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.

The fifth-seeded duo of Alcaya and Cruz topped Tulsa's Victor Tosetto and Otso Martikainen, 6-4, 7-6 (1), capturing Wichita State's first American Conference doubles title in just the second year of the fall tournament format. The pair earned the opportunity to represent the American Conference at the 2026 ITA Conference Masters, held on Nov. 5-8 in Rome, Ga.

The Shockers came out strong to take control early in the first set, securing a 6-4 victory. The second set came down to a tiebreak, where the Shockers outplayed Tulsa in the tiebreak, winning 7-6 (7-1) to clinch the match.

In singles play, both Alcaya and Cruz advanced to the Round of 16 after winning their opening matches. Alcaya opened with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Lucca Pignaton of Florida Atlantic before dropping a 6-4, 7-5 decision to Rice's Petro Kuzmenok. Cruz defeated UAB's Ondrej Valek, 7-6 (7), 6-3, before being edged by Tulane's Daniel Phillips, 6-3, 7-5.

Alcaya and Cruz will pursue an NCAA Championship bid at the ITA Conference Masters Championships, where they will go head-to head with champions from other conferences.
