4/24/2015 4:15:00 PM

WICHITA, Kan. – Guard TaQuandra Mike, a NJCAA All-America Honorable Mention at South Georgia Technical College, has signed a national letter of intent to play women's basketball at Wichita State, Head Coach Jody Adams announced today.

“I'm really excited about adding TaQuandra Mike to our Shocker family,” Adams said.  “She is a very gifted, all-around student-athlete.  But what I love most about her is her passion to score the ball in multiple ways.  TaTa comes from a winning tradition which fits the DNA of our winning ways.”

Mike, a 5-foot-9 guard from Savannah, Ga., averaged 17.2 points on 41.5 percent shooting from the field, including 36.2 percent from the arc, to lead SGTC to a 30-5 overall record and a 19-1 record in the Georgia Junior College Athletic Association.

The Lady Jets, which were 58-13 the last two seasons, also established the longest winning streak in the history of the program with 20 consecutive victories in 2013-14, one GJCAA regular-season conference title, two NJCAA Region XVII tournament titles, two District J titles, back-to-back NJCAA Division I national tournament appearances, the most wins in a single season, and two sweet sixteen finishes in the NJCAA.  The Lady Jets also made history with their first national tournament win this season in their three appearances.

Mike played at Groves High School in Savannah and was selected as a NJCAA Top 40 Student/Athlete as a freshman. In 2014-15, she was named to the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) First Team All-Conference team, the NJCAA Region XVII All-Tournament team and NJCAA All-American Honorable Mention.

Mike also posted a school record eight three pointers in the 2015 NJCAA Region XVII championship game to lead the Lady Jets to an upset against Darton State College on their home court.

Mike has plans to major in exercise science at Wichita State.
