WICHITA, Kan. -- Alex Harden, already the most decorated Shocker in women's basketball, solidified her place in history with an Associated Press All-America honor, it was announced Tuesday by the wire service on Tuesday.
"It is an honor," said Harden, who became the school's career leading scorer as a senior. "For the program it shows anyone can be anything they want to with hard work. There are not many programs of our size that have someone represented on the teams.
"I appreciate all of the people who voted for me and placed me on the team. It shows what hard work can do for you. Thank you to all my teammates and all the Shocker fans that supported us. I want to also thank our coaches for believing in us and for getting us the exposure."
Harden, a Springfield, Ill., native, averaged 17.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.4 assists for WSU, which went 29-5 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament, its third-straight.
She was named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year and to the All-Defense Team after being named the Defensive Player of the Year as a sophomore and a junior.
Harden ended her career with 1,708 points as the top scorer in school history and was three times named the MVC Tournament Most Outstanding Player.
She is the only Shocker with more than 1,440 points, 600 rebounds, 350 assists, 100 blocks, and 200 steals, and also owns the single-season steals record with 106 this season.
WSU had not made any NCAA appearance, or won an MVC regular-season or tournament title prior to Harden's arrival.
She is the first honorable mention All-America in women's basketball at Wichita State.
