WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State men's tennis team made quick work of UKMC on Saturday afternoon at the Genesis Indoor Courts en route to a 7-0 win.
The win improved the Shockers to 6-2 this season, while UMKC dropped to 3-5.
Wichita State got the day started by taking the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. The nationally-ranked duo of Tomislav Gregurovic and Tin Ostojic defeated Airam Castellano and Mike Psarros, 6-2. Gregurovic and Ostojic are now 16-3 this season in doubles.
Illija Cuic and Guillermo de Vilchez downed Uldis Gaismins and Andrey Smirnov, 6-1, on court No. 2.
In singles action, No. 39 Tin Ostojic came back after dropping the first set to Castellano, 4-6, to win the next two, 6-1, 6-3. Ostojic ran his singles record to 13-3 on the season.
At the No. 2 position, Gregurovic needed three sets to take down Smirnov, 1-6, 6-4, 6-1. Cuic defeated Vinh Pham at No. 3 in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, while Guillermo de Vilchez also only needed straight sets to dispatch Gaismins, 6-4, 7-5.
Jocelyn Devilliers defeated Psarros, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 5 and rounding out the lineup at No. 6 was Sergio de Vilchez who defeated Conner Edwards, 1-6, 6-1, 6-1.
WSU returns to the court Feb. 20-21, when the Shockers travel to Iowa City, Iowa. The Shockers will face off with Iowa on Friday, Feb. 20 at 6 p.m. CST.
