All-American point guard Fred VanVleet led all players with 17 points on 7-of-15 shooting. VanVleet also added four assists and four rebounds. Ron Baker was the only other Shocker in double-figures, finishing with 13 points and a team-high tying six boards.

Tonight's game also marked the much-anticipated debut of Kansas transfer, Conner Frankamp. The redshirt sophomore came off the bench to play 14 minutes with two points, two steals and an assist. He was 0-for-5 from the field, including 0-for-3 from downtown.

The Shockers (4-4) ran their school-record home court winning streak to 35 straight, which ranks third in the nation. UNLV (7-2) had several chances to tie the game late, but squandered opportunities with a turnover or poor shot selection.

UNLV outscored the Shockers by three in the second half and shot 44 percent from the field, but couldn't get over the hump. The Rebels shot 40.4 percent (19-for-47) from the field, but were only 4-for-17 from beyond the arc. Pair that with 19 turnovers and 17 WSU points off turnovers.

The Shockers didn't fare much better, shooting 37.5 percent (21-for-56) from the field and a paltry 16.7 percent (3-for-18) from three-point range. It was also a rough night at the charity stripe for the Black and Yellow. Wichita State connected on only 11-of-22 attempts, and most of those misses coming late.

Stephen Zimmerman Jr. led the Rebels with 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting. Patrick McCaw entered tonight's game averaging more than 18 points per game for UNLV, but was held to five points (2-for-8) and three turnovers.

WSU started out cold from the field to begin the second half, connecting on just three of its first 14 attempts from the field, but back-to-back baskets from Baker put up the Shockers up 43-35 near the nine-minute mark.

After trailing by nearly 10 points for a majority of the second half, the Rebels found themselves down only three with five minutes to play. The closest UNLV would get would be two points.

VanVleet hit 1-of-2 free throws with 28 seconds left to put WSU up 52-47, but a three-pointer from Jerome Seagears brought the Rebels within two and only 22.6 seconds remaining. Two free throws from Frankamp and a UNLV turnover put the game away with under 10 seconds to play.

The Shockers led 15-6 at the 10-minute mark of the first half behind a 7-0 run and a stout defense, as the Rebels made just three of their first 10 shots from the field with seven turnovers. VanVleet added to the WSU lead with five straight points to give the Shockers a 22-8 lead and forcing a UNLV timeout at the 7:25 mark.

The lead hovered around double-digits for much of the last 10 minutes, before Wichita State went into the locker room with a 31-22 lead over UNLV. VanVleet scored 14 of the team's 31 points in the first half to lead all scorers.

Zimmerman Jr. and Jalen Poyser led the Rebels with six points each, while Zimmerman Jr. added four boards. McCaw was held scoreless on just 0-of-2 shooting and two turnovers in the opening half.

Wichita State held the Rebels to just 25 percent from beyond the arc and 38 percent overall in the first 20 minutes, while also forcing 10 UNLV turnovers. WSU finished the half 13-for-31 (42 percent) from the field, but was only 2-for-11 from three-point range.

Wichita State makes the short drive downtown to INTRUST Bank Arena on Saturday when the Shockers host No. 25 Utah for a 2:30 p.m. tipoff on ESPN2.
