Losses have come against Sam Houston State twice, TCU twice, Oral Roberts, Texas, Utah Valley twice, Illinois State, Baylor, Texas Tech twice, Evansville twice, Indiana State twice, and Missouri State. As a team, the Patriots are hitting .254 with a team ERA of 3.79. They are led offensively by Mike Wesolowski who is hitting .293 with 10 doubles, four home runs and 28 RBI. DBU is led by seventh-year head coach Dan Heefner.

Last Meeting vs. DBU
The last meeting between the two teams was a three-game series in Wichita April 27-29, 2012. The Shockers won the first two games by scores of 13-3 and 8-7 and Dallas Baptist won game three 4-1. Don Lambert went 5-for-10 in the series, while Johnny Coy drove in six. Josh Smith and Cale Elam each earned a win, while Mitch Mormann took the loss.

The Shockers are 23rd in doubles, 34th in doubles per game, 30th in home runs, 35th in home runs per game, 37th in shutouts, 44th in slugging percentage, and 40th in walks allowed per nine innings. Individually, Casey Gillaspie is sixth in walks,ninth in walks per game, 12th in batting average, 18th in hits, ninth in home runs, 12th in home runs per game, third in on base percentage, 43rd in RBI, eighth in slugging percentage and seventh in total bases. Tanner Dearman is 37th in stolen bases. Micah Green is 28th in sacrifice flies. A.J. Ladwig is 27th in games started, eighth in ERA and 38th in walks allowed per nine innings and Sam Tewes is 27th in games started. Cale Elam is 40th in strikeout-to-walk ratio and Aaron LaBrie is 20th in appearances.
Elam Named Valley Pitcher of the Week
Wichita State baseball student-athlete Cale Elam has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 28-May 4.
Elam, a senior from Oktaha, Okla., led the Shockers to a win over Bradley on Saturday. He pitched eight shutout innings and allowed just two singles with two walks and six strikeouts.
He faced just three batters in five of his eight innings and never faced more than four in an inning. The Braves reached scoring position just one time against Elam and that was in the sixth inning. No base runner reached third base in the game.
With the win, Elam improved to 5-0 in his career against Bradley with a 0.81 ERA.
It is the second Valley Pitcher of the Week honor this season for Elam and the fourth of his career.
Elam vs. the Braves
Senior pitcher Cale Elam threw eight shutout innings against Bradley on Saturday and earned the win. In his career, he is now 5-0 against Bradley with a 0.81 ERA. He has made five appearances with two starts and allowed just two runs in 22.1 innings.
Streaking vs. Bradley
With the three-game sweep over Bradley, Wichita State has now won 33-straight games over the Braves in Wichita. The last time BU defeated the Shockers in Wichita was May 18, 1996 in the Valley Tournament. WSU has also won 19-straight overall against the Braves. The last time BU beat WSU was April 1, 2007, in Peoria, Ill.
More Home Runs for Gillaspie
Junior first baseman Casey Gillaspie hit his 11th and 12th home runs of the season on Saturday against Bradley. He homered from both sides of the plate in the same game for the second time this season. The 12 home runs are a new career-high for him in a season and the most by a Shocker since Drew Moffitt hit 26 in 2004.
Koeiman on Hitting Streak
Junior second baseman Zair Koeiman is on a career-best seven-game hitting streak. During the streak, he is 10-for-23 (.435) with six runs, two doubles, one home run, four RBI and three walks.
Nine-Game Home Stand
Wichita State began a nine-game home stand on Tue., April 29 against Kansas. The Shockers hosted Oklahoma State on April 30 and then played Bradley in a three-game series May 2-4. Kansas State came to Eck Stadium on May 6 and the Shockers close out the home stand with Dallas Baptist May 9-11.
Weekly Nominee
Player of the Week - Zair Koeiman
Koeiman led the Shockers to a series sweep over Bradley. He went 7-for-16 (.438) in five games last week with three runs, two doubles, one RBI, two walks, a sacrifice fly and a sacrifice bunt. He also had a perfect fielding percentage in 25 total chances at second base. He had a hit in all five games to extend his career-best hitting streak to six games. Against Kansas, he went 1-for-3 with a walk and against Oklahoma State he went 2-for-4 with a double. In game one against Bradley, he went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a double and in game two he went 1-for-3 with a run and a walk. In the finale, he went 2-for-3 with two runs and a sacrifice bunt.
Ladwig Continues His Quality Start Streak
Junior pitcher A.J. Ladwig continued his streak of quality starts in 2014. He is now 12-for-12 after throwing eight innings on Friday and allowing just one earned run. He is one of just two pitchers nationally to be 12-for-12 in quality starts this season. On the season, he is 3-5 with a 1.16 ERA.
Weekend Rotation
The weekend rotation of A.J. Ladwig, Cale Elam, and Sam Tewes continues to be impressive for the Shockers. The trio is 16-8 with a 2.01 ERA. In 223.2 innings pitched, the rotation has 47 walks and 157 strikeouts. The trio ranks sixth nationally in ERA for a weekend rotation.
