TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Illinois State used 6.1 shutout innings from Dan Savas to defeat Wichita State 6-0 in the first round of the 2014 Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.

Starter Cale Elam went seven innings and gave up two runs on six hits with three walks and two strikeouts.

Garrett Bayliff went 2-for-3, while Dayne Parker, Tyler Baker, Micah Green and Tanner Kirk each had a hit for the Shockers.

The Redbirds got on the board in the top of the second inning. With one out, Mason Snyder doubled down the right field line and scored on Brock Stewart's single to centerfield to give the Redbirds a 1-0 lead.

ILS added to the lead in the sixth. With one out, Snyder walked and moved to third on a two-out single from Logan Leverett. Snyder scored on a wild pitch to put the Redbirds in front 2-0.

A three-run home run from Stewart in the eighth increased the lead to 5-0 and a run in the ninth made it 6-0.

The Shockers will play the loser of the Evansville/Southern Illinois game at 8 a.m. (Central) on Wed., May 21.
