Gillaspie Named Joe Carter Player of the Year
Casey Gillaspie, a junior first baseman from Omaha, Neb., is hitting .406 with 80 hits, 15 doubles, 15 home runs, 50 RBI and 52 walks. He earns first team honors in 2014 after being a second team selection in 2013. He is the 16th Shocker to be named Joe Carter Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year. He is on the all-defense team for the second-straight season.

Eight Shockers Named All-Valley
Eight Wichita State baseball student-athletes have been named to the 2014 All-Missouri Valley Conference Baseball Team, as voted on by the league coaches.  
Junior first baseman Casey Gillaspie, senior utility player Dayne Parker and junior starting pitcher A.J. Ladwig were named to the first team, while junior catcher Tyler Baker, junior third baseman Chase Simpson, sophomore outfielder Daniel Kihle and senior starting pitcher Cale Elam were named to the second team.
Senior relief pitcher Aaron LaBrie was named to the honorable mention team, while Gillaspie, Baker and Elam were also named to the All-Defensive Team.

MVC Tourney History
Wichita State will be making its 37th-straight appearance in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.  The Shockers have won 18 tournament titles and own a tournament record of 100-44-1.  WSU last won the tournament championship in 2013. The Shockers have an overall record of 100-44-1 (.690) in the Valley Tournament and are 18-8 (.692) in the championship game. Wichita State has appeared in 14 of the last 17 championship games. The three years WSU did not make the championship game were 2001, 2006 and 2012.
 
Shockers vs. Redbirds
Wichita State is the No. 4 seed in the MVC Tournament and will face No. 5 seed Illinois State in the first round.  The Shockers are 10-3 all-time against the Redbirds in the MVC Tournament.

Gillaspie Named Valley Player of the Week
Wichita State baseball student-athlete Casey Gillaspie has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week for the week of May 12-18.
Gillaspie, a junior first baseman from Omaha, Neb., led the Shockers to a three-game sweep at Illinois State to close out the regular-season. He went 4-for-6 with four runs, one home run, three RBI, and seven walks. He had a 1.167 slugging percentage and a .846 on base percentage for the weekend and he had a perfect fielding percentage in 22 total chances at first base.
In game one against the Redbirds, he went 1-for-1 with three walks and in game two he went 1-for-2 with a run and two walks. In the finale, he went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, two walks and a home run, his 15th of the season.

Shocks in the NCAA Stats
Wichita State is ranked in the top-50 in several statistical categories in the 12th NCAA stats release of the season. The Shockers are 41st in doubles, 22nd in home runs, 27th in home runs per game, 32nd in shutouts, 48th in slugging percentage, and 42nd in walks allowed per nine innings. Individually, Casey Gillaspie is first in walks,second in walks per game, seventh in batting average, 24th in hits, fifth in home runs, seventh in home runs per game, first in on base percentage, 40th in RBI, third in slugging percentage and seventh in total bases. Micah Green is 44th in sacrifice flies. A.J. Ladwig is 24th in games started, third in ERA, 42nd in strikeout-to-walk ratio and 32nd in walks allowed per nine innings and Sam Tewes is 24th in games started. Cale Elam is 42nd in strikeout-to-walk ratio and Aaron LaBrie is 32nd in appearances.
