SB: Shockers Fall Just Short vs. Charleston Southern

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Melanie Jaegers went 2-for-3 at the plate, including a double and two RBIs but the Wichita State softball team fell to Charleston Southern, 3-2 in its second game of the day at the Unconquered Classic in Tallahassee, Fla.

Sloan Anderson (4-4) took the loss for the Shockers, striking out four and allowing six hits and three runs, including two doubles and two home runs in seven innings. Jennifer Giles (3-1) recorded the win for the Buccaneers.

Paige Luellen hit a double to left field to start things off for the Shockers in the second, scoring shortly after on a single to center field by Melanie Jaegers to give Wichita State a 1-0 lead.

Marci Christian hit a two-out home run in the top of the third inning to tie the game, 1-1.

Ari Tedesco hit a two-run home run to right field to give Charleston Southern its first lead of the game, 3-1, in the top of the seventh.

Ali Vandever started the seventh inning rally for the Shockers with a double to right center before Jaegers hit a double to left field, bringing in Vandever and cutting the Buccaneer lead, 3-2. Jaegers advanced to third on a single to second by Cacy Williams and Kelli Spring walked to load the bases but it wasn't enough as Wichita State fell in the final inning, 3-2.

The Shockers will wrap up the Unconquered Classic Sunday morning when they take on tournament host and No. 10 Florida State at 8 a.m. (CT).
