WICHITA -
CollegeSportsMadness.com has named Wichita State University's Jody Adams as its
Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year.
Shocker sophomore Alex Harden was named to the All-Conference Second
Team.
Adams is in
her fifth season at WSU and has taken the team from a 10th-place
finish in 2008-09 to the co-championship this year. The Shockers set program records for overall
(21) and MVC (15) victories while matching a school-record 10-game winning
streak. Under Adams, WSU started
conference play with a sparkling 10-0 record en route to winning the school's
first-ever conference title.
Harden
overcame a slow start to become a dominant player in MVC competition. In Valley games the sophomore leads the
Shockers in scoring (13.6 ppg), rebounds (5.1), assists (4.4), blocked shots
(21), and steals (32). She is shooting
.505 from the field and .764 from the line.
The website
named UNI's Jacqui Kalin its Player of the Year and Creighton's Marissa Janning
its Freshman of the Year.
The
all-conference teams as voted on by the league's coaches, SIDs, and media
members will be released on Wednesday.
The league's "specialty awards" (Coach of the Year, Player of the Year,
etc.) will be released Thursday.
