WICHITA, Kan. -
The Wichita State softball team was unable to get their first Missouri Valley
Conference victory of the season, falling to Creighton in the series finale,
15-7, Saturday at Wilkins Stadium.
The Shockers gained a 1-0 lead in the third inning when
sophomore Rachel Milnark single to center scoring Kaitlyn Carey. From there the
visiting Bluejays from Omaha, Neb. scored the game's next eight runs in the
fourth and fifth innings.
Wichita State rallied to score five runs in the bottom of
the fifth to cut the Creighton lead to two, 8-6, courtesy of Melanie Jaegers
bases clearing double down the leftfield line.
The momentum of the fifth inning rally was quickly subdued
as Creighton added two runs in the sixth and five additional runs in the
seventh.
Carey went 3-for-4, and Brianne Bond and Hayley Temple each
collected a pair of hits to lead the Shockers offense.
Wichita State heads back on the road Wednesday for a 5 p.m.
doubleheader in Lawrence, Kan. to take on the Kansas. The doubleheader will be
the first of ten consecutive road games for the Shockers.
