WICHITA, Kan.- The Wichita State men's tennis team defeated
Illinois State, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon at Genesis Health Club. The win moves
the Shockers to 14-4 overall and 3-0 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
In doubles play, the two teams would split the first two
matches. Matheus Pereira and David Cavalcanti defeated Alexander Pelaez and
Tuomas Manner, 9-7, to capture the doubles point for the Shockers in the final
doubles contest.
The Shockers took their confidence into singles play, winning
five out of six matches. Senior David Cavalcanti defeated Tuomas Manner, 7-6,
2-6, 10-7, in his last home match as a Shocker.
The Shocker men hit the road for a pair of conference
matches next weekend. On Saturday, they will go to Des
Moines, Iowa for a match against Drake at 11 a.m. The next day they travel to Omaha,
Neb. for their final regular season conference match against Creighton at 10
a.m.
