EVANSVILLE, Ind. -
The Wichita State softball team completed a three game series sweep of Evansville, 1-0,
Sunday afternoon at Cooper Stadium in Evansville, Ind.
Katie Armagost threw five shutout innings en route to her
second victory of the series allowing only five hits and stranding numerous
runners in scoring position. The junior from Wichita, Kan. tossed 11.1 shutout
innings in the series.
Wichita State got their only run in the top-of-the fifth
inning when Danika Miller hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield scoring pinch
runner Holly Eckert. Eckert was running for Brianne Bond who led off the inning
with double down the left field line. Kaitlyn Carey sacrifice bunted Eckert to
third before Miller's clutch at-bat. The highlight of the play was Eckert's
diving headfirst slide around the left leg of the catcher that narrowly beat a
good throw from the center fielder.
Sloan Anderson took over for Armagost in the sixth inning
and allowed one hit in her two innings of work to earn her second save of the
weekend series.
Wichita State will next play a Wednesday doubleheader at
Missouri State. Game one of the doubleheader is scheduled for 4 p.m.
