WICHITA, Kan.- The Shocker women's tennis team will host two
matches on Saturday, March 17. At 11 a.m. Wichita State will take on No. 51
North Texas, and at 4 p.m. Cowley County. The match against North Texas will be played at Wichita Country Club, while the afternoon match against Cowley County will be played at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex.
No. 51 North Texas (11-5) comes into the match against
Wichita State on a three match-winning streak. On Friday, March 9 they defeated
Denver, 5-2, then two days later, they took down Louisville, 4-0. They have a
record of 3-4 this season against ranked opponents, including a win against No.
44 TCU.
The Cowley County Tigers (3-2) will come into the match
fresh off playing Barton County and McPherson on Thursday, March 15. In their
most recent win against Emporia State; they were able to take all of the
singles matchups on their way to victory.
The Wichita State Shockers (7-5) have not played a match
since March 4, which was a 4-3 win over Denver. In the match against the Mean
Green, the Shocker women will be looking for their first win over a ranked
opponent for the season.
Senior Lutfiana Budiharto is ranked number 108 in singles.
The senior from Jakarta, Indonesia is 10-2 in singles competition this season,
including winning eight of her last ten matches. Fellow senior Delia Damaschin
has won four straight singles competitions.
After Saturday, the Shockers will head to Texas for a pair
of matches against UT-Arlington and Southern Methodist.
