STILLWATER, Okla. - Wichita State was unable to capitalize on a terrific
pitching performance from sophomore starter Sloan Anderson, falling in eight
innings to 2011 Women's College World Series participant Oklahoma State, 2-1.
After giving up a leadoff
triple to Oklahoma State second baseman Ari Morrison and subsequent sacrifice
fly, Anderson found her rhythm and was nearly flawless over the games final
seven innings giving up two earned runs and striking out a pair of Cowgirl hitters.
The Shockers trailed 1-0
through five innings before Rachel
Milnark legged out a bloop hit over the third baseman and turned it into a one-out double. Milnark then stole third before being driven in by Sydney
Stuever's single through the left side of the infield to even the score.
In the bottom of the eighth
OSU center fielder Kelsey Anchors laid down a leadoff bunt single, stole second
and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt. The final play of the game came when
Julie Ward hit a slow bouncer to the first base side of the pitchers circle
that found light and advanced Anchors home as the game-winning run.
Wichita State opens
Missouri Valley Conference play with a three game series against Southern
Illinois beginning with a Saturday doubleheader at 12 p.m.
