WICHITA,
Kan. — Senior Joe Ragland led Wichita State's hot shooting Wednesday by pacing
the Shockers with a game-high 19 points, including five three pointers, in an
82-57 win against Northern Iowa at Charles Koch Arena.
The
Shockers shot 55.9 percent for the game (33-of-59) and a season-high 63.2
percent from three-point range (12-of-19) to pick up their Missouri Valley
Conference-leading 12th league win of the season.
Wichita
State improved to 21-4 overall and 12-2 in Valley men's basketball play in
front of a home crowd of 10,241.
David
Kyles scored 16 points off the bench and went 4-for-4 from behind the
three-point arc as Wichita State matched a season-high with 12 made treys.
Garrett
Stutz, the MVC Player of the Week, picked up his ninth double-double of the
season with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Toure' Murry also finished with double-digit
scoring (12 points) and Demetric Williams led all players with six assists Wednesday.
Seth
Tuttle led Northern Iowa (16-10, 6-8) with 15 points.
Wichita
State opened the game by scoring its first 12 points on three-pointers, going
4-for-4 in the first four minutes, with Ragland and Ben Smith scoring two threes
each.
The
Shockers built a 10-point lead on a Williams' three. A Murry layup pushed the Shockers'
lead to 11 points with 12:19 remaining in the half.
A
three-pointer from Kyles extended Wichita State to a 29-15 lead midway through
the first half. A Stutz tip-in later in the half gave the Shockers a 19-point
edge with 6:36 left in the half.
The
Shockers took a 43-35 lead into halftime. Ragland scored 13 points in the first
half to lead all scorers. Marc Sonnen led UNI with eight points.
The
Shockers shot 53 percent in the half, including 69 percent from three-point
range (9-of-13) in the opening 20 minutes.
UNI
cut Wichita State's lead to three points early in the second half on a layup
from Tuttle.
The
Shockers later put together a 12-0 run over a stretch of 5:04 to take a 64-47
lead midway through the half. UNI missed five-straight shots during the same stretch.
A
Cotton dunk, assisted by Williams, followed by a Kyles' three with 6:29 left in
the game pushed Wichita State ahead by 21 points.
Wichita
State improved to 13-1 at home this season and won for the 11th time
in the last 12 games.
The
Shockers next play at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11 at Creighton. ESPN2 will
televise the game. Wichita State returns home to play Missouri State at 7:05
p.m. Feb. 15 at Charles Koch Arena.
