WICHITA, Kan. - A 16-6 run to begin the second half proved to be the difference as unbeaten Kansas State (6-0) was able to hold off a furious Wichita State (3-5) comeback over the game's final eight minutes to take the intrastate tilt, 48-43, Tuesday night in Charles Koch Arena.

Jessica Diamond led the Shockers with 13 points on 5-of-14 shooting. Chynna Turner and Alex Harden each chipped in nine points for Wichita State as the Shockers shot 48 percent in the second half. Michelle Price added 10 rebounds including three offensive.

A 3-pointer from Turner and a pair of baskets from Diamond trimmed the Kansas State lead to 42-40 with 2:31 remaining, but the Wildcats scored the next four points to put the Shockers away.

In the first half the Wildcats opened the game on a 9-2 run capped by Brittany Chambers' layup at the 15:35 mark. Chambers scored seven of the nine Kansas State points during the game-opening run. Wichita State scored the next four points on consecutive buckets from Alex Harden and Jessica Diamond to close within three, 9-6. The Shocker were unable to maintain the momentum as two straight turnovers led to back-to-back layups for Haley Texada to spur an 8-0 Kansas State scoring run to extend the Wildcat lead to 17-6 with 10:56 remaining.

The Wichita State offense went stagnant following a Jasmine Jones layup with 10:19 remaining in the half. The Shockers went over seven minutes without a field goal before Diamond's 3-pointer from the left corner with 2:11 left followed by Kelsey Jacobs' baseline 10-foot jumper closed the Kansas State lead to 20-15 heading into the halftime break.

Chambers paced Kansas State with 18 points including three 3-pointers.

Wichita State returns to action Fri., Dec. 7 at 12:05 p.m. hosting Northern Colorado in Charles Koch Arena.
