Box Score KNOXVILLE, Tenn.- The No. 23 Wichita State men's basketball team
was handed their first lost of the season, 69-60, on Thursday night at the Thompson-Boling
Arena.
Senior Carl Hall led Wichita State (9-1) with 21 points on
9-of-10 shooting. He also grabbed nine rebounds and had three blocks.
Trae Golden scored 25 points for Tennessee (5-3) and Jordan
McRae added 17.
Neither team started the game well on the offensive end, only combining for six points after the first media timeout. The
Shockers continued their good defensive effort however, forcing the Volunteers to
turn the ball over on six of their first nine possessions.
Tennessee would take a 30-28 lead into halftime, shooting
47.8 percent from the field. Wichita State shot 11-of-29 for 37.9 percent, but
used four 3-pointers in the half to keep within striking distance.
Down 58-52 with 5:56 left in the game, the Shockers went on
a 7-0 run that was capped by Carl Hall's 3-point play to give them the lead,
59-58. The Volunteers would answer back however, and close out the game on an
11-1 run.
Wichita State shot 38.2 percent from the field for the game
on 21-of-55 shooting. The Volunteers were 19-of-40 for 47.5 percent, and made
29-of-36 from the free-throw line.
The Shockers will look to bounce back against Charleston
Southern when the Buccaneers come to Charles Koch Arena
on Thursday, December 20. Tip is set for 7 p.m.
