WICHITA - Seniors Jessica Diamond and Chynna Turner were
named to the College Sports Madness Missouri Valley Conference Preseason
All-Conference Team. Diamond was named to
the first team and Turner the second team.
Diamond was an All-MVC first-teamer last year and is the top
returner scorer from one of the most successful WSU teams of all time. She scored a career-high 13.3 points per game
while connecting on 49.0% of her shots from the field and 83.9% from the free
throw line. She also tallied a
career-best 52 steals and 11 blocked shots to go along with a team-best 84
assists.
Turner is the second-leading returning scorer. She averaged 8.7 points per game overall and
10.2 points per game in conference play.
She also pulled down a team-best 187 rebounds and added 44 assists (the
most by a Shocker front court player).
Turner shot 48.9% from the floor and picked up two separate MVC Player
of the Week awards.
Joining Diamond on the first team are Jamie Russell
(Illinois St.), Carli Tritz (Creighton), Sarah Nelson (Creighton), and Samantha
Heck (Evansville). The second team includes
Candace Sykes (Illinois St.), Cartaesha Macklin (SIU), Christiana Shorter
(Missouri St.), and Amber Kirschbaum (No. Iowa).
Practice is underway and Wichita State's first exhibition
game is Sunday, Oct. 28 vs. Harding University at 2:05 p.m.
