FLUSHING,
N.Y. - Wichita State senior
Lutfiana Budiharto won a doubles
championship at the USTA National Men's, Women's, and Mixed Open Indoor
Championships, which took place last week at the USTA National Tennis Center in
Flushing, N.Y. Budiharto, a
native of Jakarta, Indonesia was paired with fellow Indonesian Cynthia Dewi and
they won five matches to capture the doubles crown. They defeated Steiner and Steiner, 7-5, 6-2 in the finals.
Lutfiana also advanced to the singles semifinals, where Rima
Asatrian defeated her, 5-7,6-3, 6-2.
The senior cruised to the semis, winning each of her first four matches
in two sets.
Budiharto has been named the Missouri Valley Conference
Player of the Year in each of the last two seasons and was also named MVC
Freshman of the Year.
Dewi was a member of the Indonesian National
Tennis Team, participating in numerous international junior and women's events
in both Asia and Europe. She graduated from Widya Mandala University in
Indonesia in 2001. She has
been teaching at the National Tennis Center since 2005. She has also been
working with the New York Junior Tennis Leagues (NYJTL), serving as a High
Performance coach.
Wichita State will start the spring season on Jan. 14 when
they travel to the Eagles Invite hosted by Florida Gulf Coast University in
Fort Myers, Fla.
