Box Score CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- A no-look
shot from Toure' Murry in the final two minutes put Wichita State ahead for
good in a 71-68 road win against Northern Iowa at the McLeod Center Wednesday.
Murry scored six of his 24 game-high points in the final two minutes of
the Missouri Valley Conference men's basketball game in front of a crowd of 4,690.
The win gave the Shockers their sixth-straight victory and improved
Wichita State to 5-0 in Valley road games this season. The Shockers improved to
16-3 overall and 7-1 in Valley play. UNI fell to 13-7 and 3-5 in the
conference.
Garrett Stutz (17 points), Joe Ragland (13 points) and Carl Hall (11
points) also finished with double-digit point totals for the Shockers. Stutz
led all players with nine rebounds.
Murry's 24 points tied a career high. He scored 17 of his points in the
second half.
Anthony James led UNI with 16
points and five rebounds.
The Shockers carried a 32-30 lead into halftime, taking the lead just
before the end of the half on a three-pointer from Murry.
Wichita State led by as many as nine points earlier in the half, taking
a 17-8 lead on a Hall layup. UNI battled back to eventually take a four-point
lead on a jumper by James with less than four minutes on the clock before the
half.
Stutz led the Shockers with 11 points and five rebounds in the first
half. UNI got eight points from Seth Tuttle.
UNI regained the lead early in the second half and stretched the margin
to eight points in the first four minutes with a 13-3 run.
A jumper by Murry and steal and layup from David Kyles cut the Panther
lead to four points at the 11:15 mark.
The lead later shrunk to two points, 59-57, on free throws from Murry
and Stutz.
A Hall layup, assisted by Stutz, cut the lead to one point with 3:01 remaining in the game.
The no-look shot from Murry with 1:21 to go gave the Shockers a 67-66
lead. Free throws from Ragland extended the Shockers to a three-point advantage
at the 1:11 mark.
UNI cut the Shocker lead to one point on a layup before a floating shot
from Murry pushed the Shockers in front, 71-68, with 12 seconds on the clock.
UNI missed a three-point attempt in the closing seconds to seal the Shocker
win.
The Shockers return home for two games at Charles Koch Arena, starting
at 7:05 p.m. Saturday against SIU and at 7 p.m. Jan. 25 against Evansville.
