WICHITA, Kan. - The Wichita State University women's basketball team added two
student-athletes in the spring signing period, Head Coach Jody Adams announced today. Forward Nicole Wells and guard Jasmine
Jones, both of Georgia Perimeter College, join WSU as members of the 2011-12
Shockers spring signing class.
"They both come from a successful junior college and they
both love to win," Adams said. "I
am proud of our staff for working so hard to add two more outstanding young
ladies to our team."
Wells helped Georgia Perimeter College to a 31-6 record overall,
including a perfect 14-0 mark in conference play, and a seventh-place finish at
the NJCAA National Tournament in Salina, Kan. In 33 games, Wells averaged 6.5 points and 6.1 rebounds
while forcing 40 steals and blocking 17 shots.
"Nicole is a versatile forward who can face and shoot the
three," Adams said. "She is a good-sized
body for us. She will come and
have an offensive and rebounding presence right away."
As a freshman she averaged 8.9 points and 7.2 rebounds to
pick up first team all-region honors and also earned a spot in the 2010 NJCAA
All Star Game.
Her collegiate experience followed a decorated high school
career in which Wells was named all-region and first team all-county. She was named Harlem (Ga.) High
School's MVP and Best Defensive Player.
Additionally, Wells excelled in the classroom, earning her school's
Scholar-Athlete Award and recognized as a member of the National Honor Society.
Jones also starred for Georgia Perimeter College and
five-time Region 17 Coach of the Year James Waldon. The 5-foot-9 guard averaged 7.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.2 assists,
and 2.2 steals for GPC.
"She is any coaches dream," Adams said. "When I asked her what her strength
was, she said she loved to play 94 feet of defense, so immediately she had my
attention. I look for her to spark
our defense and give us extra possessions. There's nothing beneath her, she'll do anything you ask and
she will be a great addition to the needs that we have."
At Alexander High School in Douglasville, Ga., Jones was
named all-region first team, all-county, team MVP, and picked up all-tournament
honors at the Peach State Tip-Off Classic. Like Wells, Jones was a member of the National Honor
Society.
Wells and Jones join incoming freshmen Molly O'Brien and
Alex Harden to make up the 2011-12 WSU recruiting class.
