HONOLULU, Hawaii - Hawaii used a run in the ninth and one in the 12^th to come back and beat Wichita State 8-7.

Preston Springer went 3-for-6 with two RBI and Chris O'Brien went 2-for-6 with three RBI.  Reliever Chance Sossamon took the loss after giving up the unearned run in the 12^th.

Starter Tim Kelley got a no decision after going 4.2 innings with four runs on six hits.

The Shockers got on the board quickly in the first.  Tyler Grimes was hit with the first pitch of the game and Kevin Hall walked on four pitches to put runners on.  After a deep flyout to left-center from Preston Springer advanced both runners, Chris O'Brien singled up the middle to drive them both in and give the Shocks a 2-0 lead.

The Rainbows cut into the lead with a run in the second.  Jeffrey Van Doornum led off the inning with an infield single, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a two-out single to right field by Garrett Champion.

Hawaii tied it at two in the fourth.  After a one-out single by Zach Swasey, he stole second and scored on a double by Champion.

WSU went back in front in the fifth.  With two outs, Grimes beat out an infield single and then Hall was hit by a pitch.  Springer then doubled off the wall in right-center to score both Grimes and Hall and O'Brien singled to right-center to score Springer and give the Shocks a 5-2 lead.

The Rainbows used two infield singles, three walks and two wild pitches to score two runs in the fifth and cut the lead to 5-4.

The Shockers got two more two-out runs in the sixth.  With two outs, Don Lambert bunted for a single and stole second.  Micah Green struck out but reached first on a wild pitch and Lambert scored all the way from second.  Green then stole second and a single to left field by Grimes scored him for a 7-4 lead.

Hawaii answered with two two-out runs in the sixth.  After a one-out single, reliever Grant Muncrief got a pop up, but then a single and a bloop double in shallow left field scored two to cut the lead to 7-6.

The Rainbows tied it at seven in the ninth.  Cale Elam walked the first two batters and then after a sacrifice bunt, Hawaii used a sacrifice fly to tie the game at seven.  Elam got out of the inning with a groundball to first.

Hawaii won the game in the 12^th.  After a leadoff walk, the Shockers threw away a routine double play ball to put runners on first and second with no outs.  After a sacrifice and an intentional walk, Kalani Brackenridge hit a slow chopper to short to plate the winning run.

The Shockers and Rainbows play game two of the series at 11:35 p.m. (CST) on Thurs., March 31.
