Peoria, Ill. - The Wichita
State University women's basketball team shot 29.7% and dropped a 68-49
decision at Bradley's new Renaissance Coliseum Thursday night. Haleigh Lankster and Jessica Diamond each
scored 12 points in the Shockers' first conference road game of the year.
The Shockers scored the first five points after halftime to
pull within 37-33 at the 16:08 mark.
Bradley scored its first points of the half with 15:51 remaining in the game
then steadily built the lead to double digits and as much as 23 late in the game.
A 46-31 rebounding edge for the Braves helped them overcome
28 turnovers and 17 Shocker steals.
Michelle Price turned in a career high with six thefts and Morgan Boyd
added four. However, the points scored off
turnovers were nearly even with WSU scoring 20 and Bradley 19.
The Braves did not share WSU's shooting woes, especially in
the first half when Bradley connected on 58.3% (14-of-24) of its field goal
attempts. Leah Kassing paced a balanced
scoring attack with 12 points. Kelsey
Budd added 11, all in the first half, for the second double figure scoring game
of her career.
The Shockers bench was outscored for just the third time this
season, 29-14, and WSU fell to 0-3 when the opposing bench puts up more
points.
Wichita State wraps up the road trip Saturday at Northern
Iowa with a 3:05 p.m. tipoff from the McLeod Center.
