WICHITA, Kan. - Five
Wichita State players finished with double-digit scoring totals, pushing the
Shockers to 8-0 in Wichita this season with Tuesday's 82-63 win against Drake.
A
sellout crowd of 10,506 watched at Charles Koch Arena as the Shockers improved
to 12-2 overall and 3-0 in Missouri Valley Conference men's basketball play.
Tuesday's win marked Wichita State's seventh-straight victory.

Durley led the Shockers with 13 points. Ben Smith added 12 points. Garrett
Stutz, Toure' Murry and Demetric Williams posted 10 points each. Stutz, Murry and
Gabe Blair added eight rebounds apiece.

Rice led all scorers with 17 points for Drake (6-8, 1-2).
Drake
jumped out to an early 6-2 lead with a field goal from Kurt Alexander in the
first four minutes of play, but a 3-pointer from Durley cut the Bulldogs' lead
to one point less than one minute later. A Seth VanDeest jumper in the paint
boosted Drake to an 8-5 edge entering the first media timeout of the game.
A
3-pointer from David Kyles tied the game, 8-8, with about 14 minutes remaining
in the half. The Shockers went on to tie the score twice more in the next two
minutes, but the Bulldogs broke the tie each time and led 14-12 with about 11
minutes left on the clock.
Drake
held the Shockers without a field goal for a six-minute span of the first half
until Stutz, assisted by Murry, converted a layup with 6:14 left in the half.
The layup kicked off an 8-3 run by the Shockers that boosted them to their
first lead of the game, 23-21, on a Murry layup at the 4:18 mark.
A
jumper and 3-pointer from Williams, followed by a Joe Ragland layup extended
the Shockers to their largest lead of the game, 31-28, with about two minutes
remaining before halftime. Two free throws from Murry before halftime gave
Wichita State a five-point edge. Durley extended the Shockers to a six-point
lead.
Wichita
State led 35-31 at halftime. The Bulldogs held Drake to 35 percent shooting in
the first half. VanDeest led the Bulldogs with 10 points and six rebounds. Five
Shockers finished the half with five points each.
Back-to-back
3-pointers from Murry and Kyles pushed the Shockers to a nine-point lead, an
8-0 run, and brought the crowd at Charles Koch Arena to its feet less than six
minutes into the second half.
Two
free throws from Smith later in the half tied the Shockers' largest lead,
54-45.
A
Stutz 3-pointer with about 11:15 left on the clock boosted Wichita State to an
11-point margin.
The
Bulldogs crept to within seven points, 57-50, but the Shockers' regained a
double-digit lead with a free throw from Blair and two free throws from Murry
midway through the second half.
Two
free throws from Durley boosted Wichita State to a 64-52 margin. Durley gave
Wichita State a 13-point lead. Ben Smith's 3-pointer gave the Shockers a 74-57
edge with less than five minutes remaining.
Wichita
State shot 41.3 percent in the game overall and Drake shot 47.3 percent.
Tuesday
started a stretch of three games in six days for the Shockers, who improved to
50-9 against Drake at Charles Koch Arena.
Wichita
State next plays at 7:05 p.m. Friday at Illinois State before returning home to
play Missouri State at 7:35 p.m. Sunday at Charles Koch Arena. Friday's game
