Box Score NORMAL, Ill. - Wichita State won a road series at
first-place Illinois State with a 5-1 victory in game three of the series.
Preston Springer went 2-for-4, while Kevin Hall had two
RBI. Starter Tim Kelley earned the
win. He pitched seven innings and
allowed just one run on seven hits and struck out a season-high eight. Logan Hoch earned his third save of the
season and pitched the final two innings and allowed no runs on two hits with
three strikeouts.
The Redbirds got on the board first in the third
inning. After a walk and a single to
lead off the inning, Chad Hinshaw sacrificed the runners into scoring position
and Matt Mirabal hit a sacrifice fly to left field to give ILS a 1-0 lead.
The Shockers finally got on the board in the seventh
inning. Ryan Jones led off the inning
with a walk and scored on a double to left field by Bret Bascue to tie the
score at one. Bascue came around to
score on a single from pinch hitter Chris O'Brien and a two-out single to left
field by Cody Lassley scored pinch runner Nate Goro to give the Shocks a 3-1
lead.
WSU tacked on two more runs in the ninth. Walker Davidson reached on a wild pitch after
a strikeout and advanced to second on a single by Preston Springer. A Redbird error loaded the bases and Kevin
Hall doubled down the left field line to drive in Davidson and Springer to give
WSU a 5-1 advantage.
The Shockers are next in action on Tue., May 4 when they
host Oral Roberts. First pitch is
scheduled for 7 p.m.
