WICHITA - Wichita State men's tennis team utilized nearly perfect conditions on Sunday morning to sweep the Bradley Braves at home.
Playing in lots of sun and little wind at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex, the Shockers (11-8, 3-1) rebounded flawlessly one day after a heart breaking 4-3 loss to conference-leading Illinois State. WSU never surrendered a set en route to the Shockers' first conference sweep of the season.
Wichita State went to work early, clinching the doubles point in less than 45 minutes. Sophomore David Cavalcanti and freshman Matheus Pereira nabbed their second doubles win of the weekend when they brought down Juan Cuadrado and Eric Nguyen in the No. 3 match, 8-1.
Juniors Adrian Chermaci and Vlad Marinescu worked quickly as well, overpowering Brock Reiman and Richard Robertson at the No. 2 spot, 8-3. Freshman Sven Kasper and Valentin Mihai completed the sweep when they dropped Milos Romic and Callen Fraychineaud in the top spot, 8-4.
The Shocks ran away with the momentum after clinching the doubles point. Playing in the No. 4 position, Cavalcanti started the rally against Reiman, 6-1, 6-1. Chermaci was next with his quick 6-3, 6-1 victory over Robertson in the No. 5 spot.
Not five minutes later, the Shockers clinched the victory when Marinescu topped Cuadrado, 6-3, 6-1 to give his team the 4-0 lead.
Mihai won, 6-3, 6-3, against Fraychineaud at No. 3 while Kasper wrapped it up against Romic in the No. 1 spot, 6-3, 6-3, completing the 7-0 win.
Wichita State will travel to Carbondale, Ill., to face Southern Illinois in the Shockers' last regular-season dual on Saturday, April 17.
