Shocks Cruise Over Braves, 7-0

PEORIA, Ill. - Wichita State's women's tennis team continued its hot streak in Missouri Valley Conference play on Saturday, sweeping the Bradley Braves on the road, 7-0.

Without the use of No. 49 Lutfiana Budiharto, who was pulled from the lineup as a precautionary measure, the Shockers stepped up and earned the sweep regardless.

Seniors Florentina Hanisch and Lenore Lazaroiu earned the first doubles victory, en route to sweeping the point, against Kelly Donohue and Jessica Buterbaugh, 8-3. Budiharto started the match paired with freshman Iasmine Carpen at No. 3, but was lifted for sophomore Lily Wakim. Together the pair finished with the 8-5 win over Kennedy Scott and Brigitte Graf, 8-5.

No. 33 Stephanie Dalmacio and Delia Damaschin wrapped up the point with an 8-4 victory over Nicole Miller and Emily Regenold at the top spot.

Wichita State (9-10, 4-0) carried that momentum directly into singles play. With Budiharto out, each of the Shockers moved up a space in the lineup and Carpen stepped into the vacated No. 6 position. None of the changes affected the Shocks as they cruised to straight-set victories in every match.

Playing No. 3, Damaschin started the roll with a 6-1, 6-0 win against Donohue while Hanisch followed close behind. She toppled Buterbaugh in the No. 4 spot, 6-1, 6-2 to give the Shocks the 3-0 lead.

Dalmacio clinched the win in the leadoff spot. The senior from Brazil won 6-0, 6-3.

Carpen notched her second win of the season when she took down Graf, 6-1, 6-1 while Lazaroiu kept the hot streak going in her first appearance at the No. 2 spot this season. She defeated Regenold, 6-0, 6-4.

Wakim made it a clean sweep at the No. 5 position, outworking Scott for the 6-2, 7-5 victory.

The Shocks stay in Illinois for a Sunday morning match against Illinois State beginning at 10 a.m.
