3/6/2010 6:20:00 PM

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Wichita State (16-13, 8-10) fell behind early and could not get on track offensively and fell, 85-66, at Northern Iowa (14-15, 10-8) on Sunday afternoon inside the McLeod Center.

Jazimen Gordon led the Shockers with 14 points while Chynna Turner and Jessica Diamond reached double-figures with 13 and 10 points, respectively. Jacqui Kalin led UNI with 19 points.

The Panthers opened the game on a 18-5 run, in which Morgan Boyd provided the offense for the Shockers, hitting a 3-pointer from the top of the key and sinking a pair of free throws. UNI stretched the lead to 20, 41-21, after a free throw by Kalin.

But the Shockers started to claw back using a balanced scoring attack. WSU outscored the Panthers, 13-8 in the final three minutes of the half to trail, 49-34 at halftime.

Boyd and Jessica Diamond led the Shockers with seven points each, while Sheena Johnson chipped in six points. WSU continued its hot streak from behind the arc, hitting 4-of-7 from long distance in the first half including a deep 3-pointer by Marisah Henderson with just 30-seconds to go in the half.

Kalin led UNI with 14 points in the opening frame, going 5-of-9 from the floor, including three 3-pointers.

The Shockers emerged from the locker room a more energetic and focused group. Henderson set the tone early in the half by driving to the basket and drawing a foul. Despite the extra effort, the first seven minutes of the half were a defensive struggle. WSU held the Panthers to just six points in the stretch but could only score five themselves.

UNI continued to extend its lead at the free throw line, capitalizing on WSU hitting just two of its first seven from the charity stripe to start the half.

Turner provided the offensive punch in the second half, scoring 11 of her 13 points in the second half.

UNI shot 45-percent in the second half, going on to take the 85-66 win to close out the regular season.

With the loss the Shockers fall to the No. 6 seed in next week's State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. WSU will face No. 3 seed Missouri State on Friday in St. Charles.

The No. 6 seed is the highest for WSU since finishing fifth in 2006.
