NORMAN, Okla. - Wichita State could not shake the stronghold that No. 36 Oklahoma has on its home courts as the Shockers fell 6-1 at the Headington Family Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.                        

Despite a strong showing from No. 59 senior Stephanie Dalmacio and sophomore Delia Damaschin, who toppled the No. 31 doubles tandem in the country, the Shocks surrendered the doubles point to give the Sooners (8-1, 0-0) the early edge.

Dalmacio and Damaschin knocked off Ana-Maria Constantinescu and Teona Tsertsvadze in the No. 1 position, 8-7 (5), but the effort wasn't enough as the doubles point had already been clinched. Playing together for the first time as a duo, sophomores Lutfiana Budiharto and Lily Wakim couldn't find rhythm against Katelyn Connelly and Marie-Pier Huet and lost, 8-0, in the No. 3 match.

Shocker seniors Florentina Hanisch and Lenore Lazaroiu fell to Tara Eckel and Maria Kalashnikova at the No. 2 spot to seal the point, 8-5.

In singles action, the Sooners finished most of their work in straight sets, fighting off a Shocker lineup that refused to fold. Oklahoma's Kristina Radan got started against Wakim, defeating the Shocker sophomore, 6-0, 6-1. Dalmacio was bested by Huet in the No. 2 match 6-4, 6-2, and the Sooner lead continued to mount.

Hanisch and Lazaroiu were defeated in the No. 5 and 3 matches, respectively. Budiharto then stormed onto the scene in the No. 1 slot. Ranked No. 1 in the ITA Central Region, Budiharto defeated the Region's No. 5 player Constantinescu in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3, to give the Shocks their only win of the afternoon.

Damaschin put up a valiant effort to try and get another one for the Shocks, using a super tiebreak to decide the match, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (8).

The Shockers return to Wichita to play host to Denver at Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex on Sunday. First serve is set for 12 pm.
