WICHITA, Kan.- For just the third time in the program's history the Wichita State women's basketball team will make a postseason appearance, this time in the Women's Basketball Invitational on Thu., March 18, at 7:05 p.m., as it hosts Akron, it was announced today.
Tickets go on sale both online and in person at the Shocker Ticket Office on Tuesday. Fans can get reserved seats for just $10, adult general admission tickets for $8 or senior and youth general admission tickets for $6.
In its first season, the WBI consists of 16 teams in a single elimination tournament taking place over two weeks with games to be played at campus sites. WSU earned the No. 4 seed in the West Region and with a win over No. 5 Akron would play the winner of the No. 1 Memphis/No. 8 UMKC game.
The Shockers (17-14) are coming off a loss to Creighton in the semifinals of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament while Akron (18-13) is coming off of a 81-49 loss to Bowling Green in the Mid-American Conference Tournament semifinals. The Zips and Shockers have only met once prior to Thursday, a 70-48 WSU win in Wichita back on Dec. 19, 1998.
WSU last made the postseason in 2001, falling in the first round to Arkansas in the Women's National Basketball Invitational.
