VERMILLION, S.D. - The Wichita State University women's
basket ball team could not find an
offensive groove and dropped a 57-47 decision at South Dakota Sunday
afternoon. Haleigh Lankster was the only
Shocker in double digits with 14 points.
South Dakota blocked 10 shots and forced nine steals, while
holding WSU to 36.2% shooting. The
Shockers were 2-of-12 from three-point range and attempted just five free
throws.
Neither team looked comfortable in the first half when South
Dakota went to the locker room with a 21-17 lead. Fourteen of the Coyotes points came off 10
Shocker turnovers.
Lankster scored 12 of her 14 in the second half, including
five during a 7-0 Shocker run that reduced the deficit from 15 points to eight.
Wichita State pulled to within seven
points after a Morgan Boyd free throw at the 6:23 mark.
A combination of WSU foul trouble and missed opportunities
on the offensive end thwarted a Shockers comeback.
Amber Hegge paced the Coyotes with 16 points and seven
rebounds. South Dakota connected on
15-of-25 free throw attempts while the Shockers hit 3-of-5. Jodie Boss collected seven of the USD
blocks.
The Shockers return home to Koch Arena for the annual School
House Rocks Day on Friday against Savannah State at 12:05 p.m.
