4/1/2009 7:00:00 PM

Box Score WICHITA -- Wichita State (15-10) hit a season-high three home runs on its way to an 11-5 victory over visiting Kansas Wesleyan University (14-15) in a rain make-up game at Eck Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

Wichita State knocked out 13 hits in the game, including three from Clint McKeever for the second-straight game. McKeever had a double and a homer on the day, knocking in one run and scoring three times. The Shockers also kept the pressure on with the bottom of their order. Ryan Engrav hit a homer and a double with three RBI and Taylor Brown was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.

McKeever continued his hot week in his first at-bat with a mammoth blast over the left field wall. McKeever solo shot was his third home run of the year and gave WSU a 1-0 lead after two innings. After the Coyotes tied the score on a Max Hutson wild pitch in the third, Ryan Engrav hit his first career home run to grab the lead back for the Shockers. Engrav's solo shot to centerfield made the game 2-1.

After KWU manufactured two runs in the fourth with some clutch base hits, the Shockers battled back to load the bases in the bottom of the fourth. Mitch Caster drew a walk to score a run and Ryan Engrav got hit by a pitch to force a run across, chasing Coyote starter Nick Allaire. The Shockers added one more in the inning when Taylor Brown grounded into a double play, and take a 5-3 lead after four.

A solo shot that Chris O'Brien wrapped around the right field foul pole was followed up by back-to-back RBI singles from Engrav and Taylor Brown to push the Shocker lead to 8-3.

Wichita State added two more in the seventh inning after giving up a run apiece in the sixth and seventh to KWU. Taylor Brown ripped a single to bring home Cody Lassley, and then later scored in a double by Tyler Grimes. Grimes hit a ball into shallow right-centerfield and hustled into second ahead of the throw.

The Shocker pitching staff also got a workout in the game. Starter Cameron Maldonado got out of a couple small jams in the first and second, allowing no runs. Hutson pitched the third and Dalton Banwart pitched part of the fourth. Remington Johnson had the best day on the mound for WSU, shutting the door in the fourth with a three-pitch strikeout and then retiring the side in order in the fifth.

Johnson earned the win on the day going 1.1 shutout innings with no hits and two strikeouts. Clint McKeever pitched a scoreless eighth with no hits, and Chance Sossamon shut out the Coyotes in the ninth to close out the 11-5 win.

Wichita State will be back on the field this weekend with a three game series against MVC rival Illinois State. The first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday night.
