EAST PEORIA, Ill. -- The Wichita State women's basketball team (12-17, 4-14, MVC) snapped a two-year road losing streak with a thrilling, 70-68, win at Bradley (20-9, 11-7) Saturday night in the final game of the 2008-09 Missouri Valley Conference regular season.

Daria Frazier led the Shockers with 17 points, while Marcy Sudbeck posted her 11th double-double of the season as Wichita State snapped a 30-game road losing streak that dated back to Jan. 2007. The win also snapped a 21-game road losing streak in conference play, coming in impressive fashion on Bradley's senior night inside Lorene Ramsey Gym.

Haleigh Lankster posted a career-high 15 points in the win, while Val Siemens recorded eight points. Skye Johnson led all players with 21 points.

The Shockers made two of their first four shots but then went cold, missing the next five, allowing Bradley to race out to an early 10-5 advantage on the strength of a 8-0 fueled by six points from BU point-guard Skye Johnson.

WSU responded with four-straight points before Bradley scored the next five, but the Shockers roared back with a 14-3 run that gave Wichita State its biggest lead of the game to that point, 23-18 after Haleigh Lankster's 16-footer on the wing with 9:06 left in the first.

Bradley's high-powered offense heated up with a 9-0 run after Wichita State went cold from the field for nearly three minutes, but the Shockers fought back to score the next four points, using another Lankster jumper from the wing to tie the game, 27-27 with 6:10 left in the opening frame.

BU's Monica Rogers snapped a three-minute scoring drought with an eight-footer with 3:53 left to regain the lead, 29-27, but the Shockers continued to fight back as Lankster again answered to tie the game again, 29-29 with 3:04 left to play in the first.

A three-pointer from Daria Frazier gave the Shockers a 32-29 lead, as Bradley went scoreless for nearly two minutes before a Lund three-pointer snapped BU out of the funk and tied the game for the fifth time in the opening half, 32-32 with 1:48 left until the break.

Two free throws from Skye Johnson and a couple of Shocker turnovers had Bradley poised to end the half on a strong run, but Marisah Henderson provided the push for Wichita State instead, banking in a three-pointer with :58 seconds left to give the Shockers a 35-34 lead at the half.

Wichita State shot 50-percent from the floor in the first half, including a 4-for-8 clip from three-point range. Bradley shot 46-percent in the opening frame, and was 9-of-10 at the free-throw line to keep Wichita State from building any type of sizeable lead.

Henderson opened the second half just like she closed the first, with a long three-pointer to extend Wichita State's lead to 38-34 and Sudbeck's jumper with 18:20 left pushed the Shockers out to a 40-34 edge. Bradley's Sonia Harris then began to take over the game on the inside, scoring BU's first six points out of the break, the last of which sparked a 9-3 run that gave the Braves the lead after Johnson's layin with 13:58 left handed BU a 47-45 edge.

Wichita State refused to go away quietly, as a three-pointer by Jacie Hoyt and a Frazier jumper with 12:53 left to play tied the game for the eighth time, 47-47 before a Lankster jumper :50 seconds later gave the Shockers a 49-47 lead at the under-12 timeout.

Val Siemens' three-pointer with 10:29 left to play pushed the Shocker lead to 54-48, but Bradley answered with a three from Renee Frericks to pull within a possession, 54-51 with 9:15 left in regulation.

A Sudbeck free throw and four-straight points from Frazier pushed the Shocker lead back out to 59-52 with 6:27 left to play. A Michelle Lund three-pointer and an old fashioned three-point play by Monica Rogers quickly cut the Shocker lead to two, 61-59, but Siemens kept Wichita State's lead intact with a three-pointer with 3:54 left to extend the WSU advantage back out to 64-59.

A pair of free throws from senior Kelly Krumwiedie and a pair of runners from Johnson regained the lead for Bradley, as her second-straight basket on the break gave BU a 65-64 lead with 2:26 left to play. Sudbeck answered with a 4-0 run on her own to give Wichita State the lead, one it would not surrender.

Frericks cut the lead to just one with a jumper with :57 seconds left to play, but Frazier's basket with :34 seconds left was the final blow, giving the Shockers a three-point lead, 70-67. Jenny van Kirk made the second of two attempts at the line with :05 seconds left but Wichita State got the rebound on Jacie Hoyt's miss at the line to secure the win.

WSU is next in action when it takes on Missouri State in the first round of the 2009 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship, at 8:35, Thursday night inside Family Arena in St. Charles, Mo.
