Shocks Shut Out Braves, 10-0

WICHITA, Kan.- Wichita State (39-15, 17-5 MVC) strung together 18 hits behind a complete-game shutout by Rob Musgrave to run-rule Bradley, 10-0.
Musgrave (9-1) walked one and struck out seven while scattering five hits over eight innings.

Offensively, WSU was led by the first three batters at the top of its lineup with three hits apiece. Andy Dirks went 3-for-5, scored two runs and drove one in. Ryan Jones was a homerun away from the cycle and finished at 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI. Conor Gillaspie also was 3-for-5 and contributed a team-high four RBI.

Wichita State scored in the first and slowly built upon it to secure the 10-run win. Gillaspie started it all with a single up the middle to drive in Jones, who reached with a double in the right-center gap.

Dirks doubled to led off the third, Jones bunted for a hit and Gillaspie grounded out, but it brought home Dirks.

Wichita State scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth with two outs to take a 5-0 lead. Back-to-back singles by Bret Bascue and Dirks sparked the rally and Jones followed with a triple to deep right field. Gillaspie singled in Jones with a hit through the right side.

Again with two down, Dirks drove in Tyler Hill after consecutive walks by reliever Jon Goebel.

Tyler Weber led off the seventh inning with a solo homerun, the senior's fourth of the season. Bascue was on board with a single and Jones had walked before Gillaspie hit a ground-rule double towards right-center. Bascue scored on the hit, but Jones was held up at third, as the ball bounced over the fence. Clint McKeever was hit by a pitch, but pitcher Bryan Porter caught a hard-hit ball by Dusty Coleman to send the game into the eighth inning, 9-0.

The Braves would not manage an out in the eighth as Josh Workman started it with a double, and the bases were loaded with a single by Weber and a walk to Hill. Bascue drove in the game-winning run with a rip up the left field line.

Bradley starter Chris Wright fell to 3-6, giving up six earned runs on nine hits and two walks.

Game two of the series starts Friday night at 7 p.m., and the series wraps up Saturday at 2 p.m.
