Box Score

WICHITA, Kan.- Wichita State (22-3) won its 19th-straight game with a 10-8 victory over Oral Roberts (16-7).

The Shockers had a big inning in the bottom of the second with a lead off single by Tyler Weber followed by a bunt single from Josh Workman. Clinton McKeever drew a walk but was quickly erased on a fielder's choice by Tyler Hill. Hill reached safely on the grounder and pushed across Weber to score. Another fielder's choice followed, this time by Kenny Williams, Jr., plating Workman. Andy Dirks shot one to the outfield, past a diving center fielder as Williams easily scored from first. Ryan Jones walked and Conor Gillaspie lined into shallow left field driving in run four of the inning. Dusty Coleman put one back up the middle, scoring Jones and giving WSU a 5-0 lead.

A Juan Martinez hit started the Golden Eagles' third and the runner moved third with a double over right fielder Jones' head. ORU pitcher Kelly Minissale grounded out to first, but it was good enough to cross Martinez.

ORU would add two in the fourth frame via a ground ball and single. David Genao drew a lead off walk and Michael Notaro hit to left center for a ground rule double, leaving runners at second and third. A ground out by Ryan Groth scored one and Martinez singled to cross Notaro, cutting the lead 5-3.

Williams walked to start the seventh and Dirks laid down a bunt for a sacrifice but reached safely on an error by the third baseman. Jones singled to left field, driving in a run, and Gillaspie drew a walk on four-straight balls to load the bases. Coleman singled off the pitcher, bringing in a run and Weber had a two-run hit through the left side. McKeever flied out to left for a sacrifice that plated Coleman and put the Shockers up, 10-3.

The Golden Eagles had a five-run inning of their own, rallying in the top of the eighth. Brian Van Kirk worked a full count to draw a walk off of reliever Grant Muncrief. Genao singled and the runners moved up a bag on a Hill error at first base. A sacrifice fly by Notaro pushed one run across and Muncrief became wild, loading the bases with a hit batsman and walk before turning it over to Andy Womack. Womack got his first batter on strikes, but then more damage ensued as Brendan Duffy singled through the right side and Minissale doubled to left field, driving in a combined four RBI. Womack picked up another strikeout to stop the rally, but ORU had closed the gap, 10-8.

Coleman moved to the mound to close the ninth and sat down the minimum number.

Reliver Khol Nanney picked up the win with three innings of scoreless work. The senior scattered three hits, walked no one and struck out five batters.
Wichita State starts a three-game conference series with Missouri State, Friday night at 7 p.m., at Eck Stadium.
